P/PV Youth Violence Expert in the News
P/PV Vice President for Research Wendy McClanahan responded to a New York Times column by Bob Herbert about the recent epidemic of youth-on-youth violence in Chicago. She wrote about the need for policymakers to take a holistic approach in working to end youth violence, one that includes community partnerships and relationships with supportive adults.



Mayor Cory Booker Highlights P/PV's Involvement in Newark Reentry Efforts
In a NJ Voices Guest Blog post, Mayor Cory Booker of Newark explores how New Jersey's promising anti-violence and prisoner reentry efforts have been supported by a broad coalition of "policy institutes, political leaders, activists and philanthropists from both sides of the political aisle," including nonpartisan organizations like Public/Private Ventures. P/PV is providing technical assistance around data collection and program implementation for Newark's citywide reentry initiative, based on lessons from Ready4Work.



Mentoring Former Prisoners: A Guide for Reentry Programs

This manual draws on the experience of the 11 sites involved in P/PV's Ready4Work prisoner reentry demonstration, as well as established best practices, to provide guidelines for practitioners interested in developing mentoring programs to support former prisoners and enhance the effectiveness of other reentry services.




America Works Impact Evaluation
P/PV is conducting a random assignment study to determine whether formerly incarcerated individuals who receive job training, placement and retention services through America Works exhibit better outcomes than those who receive only America Works job training.

Casey Workforce Convening Project
P/PV has been charged by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to research what workforce strategies are the most effective for the formerly incarcerated and to host a meeting discussing these findings.

Community Reentry Initiative for Baltimore Empowerment Zone Residents
This two-year initiative works with formerly incarcerated individuals returning to Baltimore's most distressed neighborhoods (designated "Empowerment Zones"); it is designed to help them connect to addiction treatment, secure employment, find housing and stay out of prison.

Juvenile Ready4Work
This multiyear P/PV-USDOL-DOJ project engaged local faith- and community-based organizations to provide case management, mentoring, and education and employment services to juveniles returning from detention.

Mayors Summit on Reentry and Employment
The Summit, which was held in New York City on February 28, 2008, was convened to share promising solutions, encourage action to address the impact of prison and jail reentry on localities, and identify ways that Cities and Mayors can influence state and national discussions of reentry.

National Faith-Based Initiative for High-Risk Youth
A 12-site demonstration testing the effectiveness of collaborations by faith-based institutions and justice/law enforcement organizations.

Newark Prisoner Reentry Initiative
Supported by a two-year $2 million grant from the US Department of Labor, this citywide Newark, NJ reentry initiative aims to bring to scale promising program strategies from P/PV's and USDOL's past reentry work; the initiative will provide employment and support services, including mentoring.

Ready4Work
(Prisoner Reentry Initiative)
A 17-site project that supports the reentry and reintegration of ex-prisoners into their communities, including employment services, case management and mentoring.


Women's Reentry Initiative
This pilot was designed to provide women with individually tailored, comprehensive and integrated services in areas deemed crucial to successful reentry.

Youth Violence Reduction Partnership
In 1999, YVRP was launched as a collaborative effort involving law enforcement, city agencies and nonprofits. These organizations are working to reduce youth homicide and other violent crime in Philadelphia's most lawless areas. P/PV has undertaken several studies of the YVRP model.
